Grand Valley Dirt Bike Rally 2026

The Grand Valley Dirt Bike Rally is back for 2026, put on by the MTRA to showcase our local trail systems and bring riders from across the region together. The event area at the 27-1/4 Road MX Track is open all weekend, with guided rides rolling out Saturday and Sunday.

Highlights

Guided rides in Bangs Canyon, the North Desert, Rabbit Valley, and the GJ Desert, with a variety of lengths and difficulties from easy to advanced, including ladies’ rides
Trail Skills Enhancer - beginner/novice skills training on Friday afternoon
Event area fun - vendor expo, food trucks, campfire and s’mores, yard games, the Slow Ride Contest, and music or a movie
Door prizes - every ride you sign up for is an entry to win a 2024 GASGAS Moto 1 E-Bike or a $250 Klim gift card. The drawing is Saturday at 6pm and you must be present to win

Registration is through the rally website, where you’ll also find the full ride list and weekend activity schedule. This is an AMA sanctioned event, so every rider must sign an AMA waiver in person at check-in.

Fall Desert Cleanup

Meet at the 27 and 1/4 moto track event area. Trash bags will be provided along with dumpsters. Show up ready to help remove trash from our desert playground!

Cleanup will run from 8:00a until noon, or until the dumpsters are filled.

Thursday Night Ride - Desert

Explore the Grand Valley Desert on a brisk evening ride sure to include some hills, ridges, washes and single-track.

Grand Mesa Ride

This ride will start from the Vega State Park OHV staging area (see link at right) and head out on a rocky forest road for a few miles before turning onto some 50 inch ATV trails that will take us up through the aspens. Ride Elevations will vary between ~7k feet and 10,400 feet. Expect a solid 40-60 miles of riding.

While there is no single-track on this ride there will be steep hills, tight switchbacks, and some rocky parts to traverse.

MTRA Fall Meeting 2026

We have updates from the USFS and the BLM staff, we’ll wrap up the Summer riding season events and move forward to our Fall agenda. Front and center is the Grand Valley Dirt Bike Rally on Oct 16-18th, staging at the Grand Junction MX Track on 27-1/4 Road - this year’s Rally will be even bigger and better than last year, with fun evening activities, food trucks, sponsor and vendor booths, music and awesome give-aways, in addition to great rides on some of the best trails on the Western Slope! You won’t want to miss it - all your buddies will be there! Bring your friends and family too - everyone is welcome.

MTRA Vega Campout

We’ll be camping at Vega State Park, hanging out by the campfire, and enjoying ad hoc rides up onto the Grand Mesa National Forest that directly borders the State Park!

We’ll set up camp Friday August 21st, and stay through Sunday afternoon August 23rd. Most of us will be staying in the Early Settlers Campground in Vega State Park, Reservations are highly recommended as it is a popular park. It is legal to ride your stickered OHV directly from your campsite out to the trails. There is dispersed National Forest camping a few miles up the nearby Park Creek Rd if you prefer, but be warned the road can be a little rough depending on usage and erosion if you choose this option!

Bring everything you need for a weekend of camping and riding. We’ll hang out by the campfire in the evenings and organize ad hoc rides Saturday and Sunday for those interested. Bring the family to this one!

Friday Night Ride - Bangs Canyon

Take an evening cruise through the Bangs Canyon area, this ride will stay on double track making a large loop. It will still be intermediate technically however with steep sections, baby heads, and some small ledges to negotiate.

Meeting time is 6:00p, with kickstands up promptly at 6:30p!

Headlights and/or helmet lights are highly reccommended, in case of any delays the ride may not get back to the Trailhead until dusk.

Sarlacc Night Ride

Meet at the Corrals (see directions link) at 7:30pm, kickstands up at 8:00pm. Ride Sarlacc and the Star Wars trails at dusk, great views of the sunset over the Grand Valley as you wind around edge of the ridges on narrow bench cut single-track and over moderate rock obstacles.

Helmight light and/or strong headlight required, ride will not return to the trailhead until after dark!

Upper Bench Trail Work weekend

Work on Upper Bench Trail #625 - Multiple Mud Holes need hardening (8+)- some over 30 feet. Potential options to harden include rock and logs, and may need re-routing. Puncheon bridges may be needed as well. Access to the work site will require riding in for a few miles. Meet-up at 9am, July 18 at the intersection of Divide Road and FR 411.

The work party will be both Saturday (7/18) and Sunday (7/19) at 9:00a. Bringing tools and saws if you have them is appreciated. Some folks will be camping near the meeting spot, so come join us if you’re interested!

South Unc Ride

A tour of the South Unc trails with mostly woods riding that will include rocks, roots, and ruts. Some big elevation changes on some of the trails. A good romp through the woods, be prepared for a brisk pace and some technical challenges!
